POWERING BENEFITS FOR DEVELOPERS.
As an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO), ESP owns and operate electricity networks across the UK, from low voltage (LV) to extra-high voltage (EHV).
We link our Developer partners and UK-wide independent connection providers (ICPs) to provide suitable safe, compliant network solutions for a range of developments including residential, charging stations, and commercial sites.
Performance, safety and reliability are at the forefront of our service, ensuring networks are built to high-quality industry standards and specifications.
Wherever possible, ESP will implement initiatives and processes into our networks which ensure innovation and efficiency, for both Developers and Households.

Understanding ADMD (After Diversity Maximum Demand)
As the need for UK housing developments continues to increase, having efficient and reliable electricity networks is critical. ADMD (After Diversity Maximum Demand) is a network initiative which supports this efficiency and reliability.
- ADMD refers to the estimated peak electrical demand for a group of consumers (or: households) which takes into consideration varied electricity usage, assuming not every household on a development will utilise their maximum electrical at the same time. ADMD allows for a realistic representation of this diversity of use & there are several benefits to considering it within electricity network planning:
- Efficient Network Sizing: Reduces over-engineering by allowing for smaller transformer sizes and cable capacities based on realistic demand forecasts.
- Cost Savings: Infrastructure costs are significantly lowered by avoiding oversized equipment.
- Improved Planning Accuracy: Especially useful in residential and mixed-use developments where diversity of load is high.

What is a Point of Connection (POC)?
A Point of Connection (POC) is the specific location on the existing electricity distribution network where a new development or load connects. It is determined based on technical feasibility, network capacity, and proximity.
ESP identifies POC’s for our Developer Partners, effectively managing this often-complex process and ensuring benefits such as:
- Optimal Connection Location: A well-positioned POC reduces the length (and cost) of new cable routes.
- Clarity on Upfront Requirements: Reduces development project risk and allows for accurate budgeting.
- Network Stability and Compliance: Ensuring POC connections comply with regulatory standards and do not overload the existing system.
- Simplified Legal and Operational Responsibility: Handling legalities around connection rights and responsibilities, simplifying the development process.

By working with ESP, Developers can benefit from accurate ADMD calculations and strategic POC planning, enabling cost-effective, reliable, and future-proof electricity power supply for new homes across the UK.
