ESP Sustainability Strategy: Our Commitment, Our Responsibility.

In December 2024, ESP launched our first Sustainability Report – setting out a clear commitment: sustainability is not an add‑on, it’s the foundation for ESPs future.

The vision for this Strategy focuses on delivering tangible benefits where ESP can make the most difference, including:

  • connecting new homes to essential services
  • protecting vulnerable customers, whilst also ensuring key residential utility services remain reliable
  • accelerating essential electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure
  • helping Developers meet required net‑zero objectives
  • delivering last‑mile multi‑utility connections for housebuilders
  • fostering a collaborative workplace
  • maintaining rigorous governance, auditing and maintenance standards.

And, the development of this pivotal strategy has marked a key step towards transparent & continuous sharing of our environmental & social impact – enabling ESP to track progress in strengthening communities, driving innovation and creating meaningful change.

Our Strategy rests on three strategic pillars:

Sustainable: operating safely and innovating to reduce environmental impact while investing in future capabilities.

For example, ESP is taking concrete steps to measure, report and reduce its emissions, aligned to ISO 14064 for carbon accounting. ESP also participates in the UK’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) to identify energysaving opportunities across our operations.

Diverse: championing inclusivity and investing in our workforce through training & development opportunities. Initiatives such as the “Step Up” programme, apprenticeship schemes, and placement opportunities aim to nurture our talent and support longterm workforce resilience

Responsible: acting as a trusted corporate citizen, purposefully engaging with and investing in our communities. Our Customer Service commitments are encapsulated in our “Th!nk Customer” ethos, and we’re focussed on responsiveness and reliability as essential to our role as a network owner, pledging to meet agreed standards and maintain transparent customer communications.

The ESP Sustainability Strategy outlines a pragmatic, action‑oriented approach to embedding sustainability into every aspect of our business operations.

By combining measurable emissions management, focused stakeholder and community programmes, meaningful investment in our people, and adhering to robust governance, ESP aims to deliver reliable utilities infrastructure while contributing to the UK’s transition to a lower‑carbon, more inclusive future.
