Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day 2025

#TogetherWeEngineer

Every year, International Women in Engineering Day celebrates the incredible work and important contribution of women engineers across the World.

This Day was founded by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and 2025 will be its 12th year, with this years’ theme being #TogetherWeEngineer. According to WES, women engineers are sadly still under presented “with 2021 figures indicating that in the UK only 16.5% of engineers are women”

IWIED provided a unique opportunity – and is the “only platform of its kind” to encourage more women & girls to take up engineering related careers

At ESP, our female engineers are vital members of our team and we’re continually proud of the varied and important work they deliver through their roles.

Afrah Siddiqui, Design Support Specialist

“I collaborate with multiple external stakeholders to ensure that premium electricity minor works are successfully delivered in line with industry design standards. Alongside supporting design compliance, I play a key role in facilitating clear and effective communication between engineers and customers—bridging the gap to ensure complex engineering solutions are well understood and seamlessly implemented, all within the boundaries of the service level agreement”

Claudia Lopez, Design Support Specialist

“I am responsible for processing new applications in line with established SLAs, ensuring timely and accurate communication with customers throughout each stage of the process. I provide support on generation-related queries and coordinate the submission of upstream DNO applications. And, I ensure close collaboration with both internal and external engineering teams to ensure all aspects of the application process are completed efficiently and successfully”

Alia Rafique, Design Engineer

“I provide technical support and design coordination for electricity infrastructures at ESP. I work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, external stakeholders, and end consumers to ensure that engineering solutions are fit for purpose and fully aligned with regulatory standards and project goals”

 Georgina Taylor, Design Support Specialist

“I liaise with customers and installers, regarding the administration aspect of our EV Chargers and Heat Pumps applications. I also oversee generation admin, including issuing essential commission letters and general generation queries”

Natasha Sheen, Design Service Manager

“I lead a team of five Design Support Specialists, ensuring we meet service level agreements in a fast-paced environment. I manage workload distribution and act as a key link between internal teams and external stakeholders, keeping communication and delivery on track. I’m passionate about inspiring progress, empowering others, and creating a supportive team culture”

 Roz Chomacki, Design Engineer

“As one of ESP’s Design Engineers I have regular interaction with a wide range of customer and internal engineering stakeholders to ensure that ESP is able to adopt Water and Gas assets compliant with both our own, and wider industry, design standards. My daily role includes liaising with external design teams and communicating complex engineering solutions to ensure these are understood and implemented by all parties prior to the construction process”
